Important News To Share
Well, just in case you didn’t know, we’re still unable to open in our new location. However, we are definitely moving forward in our plight .
We are searching for an electrician to do some things that we aren’t quite qualified to do on our own. Our Landlord is working with us to help with the cost of these important repairs. He has approved some of the paint colors we would like to use inside the building, so things are looking better each day. We will be scheduling another workday very soon to get things done as quickly as possible.
Please plan to come out to visit the new home of Stanly Arts Guild as soon as it is officially open and sign up for a workshop or two while you’re here. While you are shopping for that on-of-a-kind gift don’t forget to check out our Guild membership levels. Make it an early resolution to become a vital part of the visual arts community!
In the meantime, take a walk down memory lane with us and remember how important the gallery was to Albemarle’s visual arts…
Albemarle’s Art Gallery
Falling Rivers Gallery was Albemarle’s premier location for one-of-a-kind works of art, jewelry, gifts, cards, prints, and fine craft items for eleven years. Home of the Stanly Arts Guild, the Gallery served the community by providing both a creative and educational venue. Workshops, special shows, and art exhibits were an important part of the art gallery and were scheduled throughout the year.
A little about our artists –
Over 100 artists and fine crafters showed their original work in Falling Rivers Gallery over the years. Artists were from Stanly as well as surrounding counties and several have continued to advance their careers after starting or showing here. As a cooperative art gallery, the artists also staffed the gallery – there were no paid positions and all Guild officers and gallery staff both worked and paid rent. We also counted on dedicated volunteers to fill in when needed
A quick summary of our art –
Our gallery had a great selection of artistic items for all tastes and budgets. We have jewelry, pottery, fused glass, and wood for decorating yourself or your shelves. There were oil, pastel, acrylic and watercolor paintings as well as photography and copper repousse to decorate your walls. We also carried locally-made soap, lotion, jam and honey. Many art pieces had a local flavor reflecting Stanly County and North Carolina landmarks.
